Raeon: Man… a funny word. To the human race, the word “man” usually refers to one’s sex. In addition to being “humans,” however, they also like to refer to themselves as “mankind.” They refer to their own era as the “age of man.” They lay claim to this sexual orientation as if sex were determined by race, perhaps in an attempt to emasculate other sentient and/or more intelligent beings… perhaps not. It’s funny how a word can have such unintended meaning and impact. Not that this matters much. If Earthspeak hadn’t become the primary language of the galaxy, this thought wouldn’t even be crossing my mind; but I digress. Simply assuming one is using the word in its general meaning – the one that refers to sex – there comes a time in every man’s life when he has to make a crucial decision. For my race, that decision is usually easy, because that decision is usually defined by the difference between one’s own life and death. There is the rare exception, though…
Move to player decision time. Raeon is looking from a scope onto what appears to be some sort of political rally. In the scope, you see a man (not a human man, but some sort of alien man) speaking at a podium. Time slows and he is outlined as “the target.” On your left (his right) is outlined a “rival assassin” who is about to make his move with a knife up the sleeve of his left wrist. On the other side are two mercenary types, outlined as “bodyguards.” When the player highlights “the target” with the cursor, an explanation appears:
Samson Eldor. Leader of the Second Kelleron Fleet. He is your target, as well as the target of others. For the first time you are torn about whether or not you should carry out your mission. You can try to kill him before the other assassins have a chance (Highly difficult due to the stage and podium’s barrier drives, as well as the bodyguards), you can let the other assassins have him, or you can take out the other assassins in the hopes it will scare the target into running from the podium, allowing you a clear shot. Whatever you do, there will be obvious repercussions. Waiting too long will result in another assassin killing the target, and killing or allowing the target to be killed will result in a lack of leadership on one side of a two-species war for a planet’s control, which would result in the perception that you have chosen a side. Letting him live and/or killing the other assassins will result in future attempts at your life for losing the ability to carry out a mission, and will also potentially result in the perception that you have chosen a side.
**It is at this point that the player is given about five seconds to decide what to do and to act as fast as possible. All decisions lead to a different story path that will be taken**
